Steve Drane - Owner / Founder
The history of Steve Drane Harley-Davidson®, as the name suggests, is directly linked to its founder and present owner, Steve Drane.
Born and raised in Victoria, Steve is a household name on Vancouver Island and is directly associated to motorcycles. During the first year of operation, Steve personally sold 4 Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Now the company, with a staff of more than 25 people, consistently sells well over that!
The company’s growth reflects a solid tradition of technical knowledge and commitment to service. It began with Steve’s personal passion for motorcycles when he first started to ride at the age of six. In 1969 he began an apprenticeship and quickly became a full-fledged mechanic after attending factory service schools run by Harley-Davidson®, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki. His strong mechanical background, coupled with his love of riding, has contributed to a long career in motocross, sidecar, hill climbing, drag and road racing on Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. Steve holds the Mt. Douglas Hill Climb record from a standing start.
In 1971, Steve Drane became one of the first licensed class six motorcycle instructors in British Columbia. He has been a member of the Victoria Motorcycle Club for over 35 years. Steve’s unique and knowledgeable experience with motorcycles has led to his expertise being sought out by many organizations. For example, both the crown and the coroner’s office have asked him to testify as an authority in traffic accident analysis.
Steve Drane Harley-Davidson® has a strong reputation for its sales and service as well as its community involvement. Its clients range from police departments to recreational riders throughout Vancouver Island. Over the years, the company has contributed to over 125 charitable organizations and is a consistent fundraiser for cancer and muscular dystrophy research. As well, the company is a major organizer of riding events throughout the year. Our company has been in business for over 30 years and we intend to keep that tradition alive for another thirty. |
